:: Welcome
Letter and report from the co-Chairs of FilmOntario to the Ontario screen-based community: January 15,2008. Read the report.
FilmOntario is a private sector consortium 30,000 strong, of companies, producers, unions, guilds and organizations within
the Ontario screen-based sector (film & television and interactive media), and
over $1 billion in economic activity annually. Our
emphasis is on marketing Ontario as a screen-based content creator and production
destination, and lobbying all levels of government (Municipal, Provincial and
Federal) to ensure that the various government policies and programs support and
enhance our vibrant industry. On the Marketing
front, we are pleased to be working in co-operation with the Ontario Media
Development Corporation (OMDC)
and the Toronto Film and Television Office (TFTO)
to ensure there is one strong voice promoting
Ontario as a world class film and television production center. To that end
we have co-financed a full time marketing staff in Los Angeles, along with marketing
financing. As well, we have co-financed with the OMDC the development
of a Brand Phrase and graphics layout for all marketing for the film and television
industry in Ontario "You Belong Here". The City of Toronto, OMDC and FilmOntario
are all committed to using this Brand Phrase and layout exclusively for our industry
sector. This has always been a key goal for FilmOntario - to establish a common
branding for Ontario's film and television sector, eliminating the hodge-podge
of marketing styles and slogans. A common web portal for the TFTO, OMDC and FilmOntario,
www.you-belong-here.com
(and .ca, .net and .org) will be up in January." News

Board, Culture Ministry and Premier’s office, FilmOntario is thrilled to see that
Karen Thorne-Stone has been appointed CEO of the OMDC. We have worked closely
with Karen at the City of Toronto, in her capacity as Economic Development lead
and then with our encouragement, as the City’s first Film Commissioner. Her extensive
background in economics and business development will mean that economic drivers
will prevail! Read the news release.
